One park, four nights, three full days
Fly or take the train to Jabalpur and a road transfer brings you to the lodge, for four nights at Bandhavgarh hosted by Lala. Three of the days are full days in the park: in through the gate 20 minutes before the regular jeeps, out 20 minutes after them, and in the forest through the middle of the day, when the other jeeps have gone. Ground transfers, safaris, lodging and meals are covered; flights, trains and travel insurance are not.
A regular safari is held to one zone, fixed when the permit is booked. A full-day jeep can use any core zone: we choose where to go in that morning, and move to another whenever there is more happening there.
Day by day
The itinerary
Jabalpur to Bandhavgarh
Met at the airport or the station, a three-and-a-half-hour drive to the lodge. A full day starts at the gate at first light, so the arrival day is for settling in.
Three full days in the park
Around 13 hours out each day, with breakfast and lunch in the park. Regular jeeps leave by around 11:00; we stay, so when a tiger settles in for the heat of the day we are still there, with far fewer vehicles around. If the whole group would like a midday break at the lodge, we take one.
Back to Jabalpur
Breakfast at the lodge, then the drive back to the airport or the station.
Full day or regular
Is a full day for you?
Full days suit photographers, and anyone who wants every possible hour with tigers: midday sightings, quieter ones once the regular jeeps have gone, and long, unhurried time with an animal, which is what makes the pictures.
They are long days: around 13 hours in an open jeep, and April afternoons in central India are hot. If you would rather have two drives a day and the middle of it at the lodge, our regular Bandhavgarh stay is three nights and six safaris, and still a serious tiger trip.
Ask about a date
Only a handful of full-day permits are issued for each park each day, and they are booked months ahead, so tell us early when you can travel. The core zones close to visitors on Wednesday afternoons, so we plan the three full days around it.
